It's been reprinted in a few places... Look in some of the Doug Hofstadter science anthologies...and I am pretty sure it's posted on line.

I never thought of that. It seems whenever we can see we navigate visually, even when we listen for something we try to see where it's coming from. Maybe buildings and subways would be like echo chambers to help the sound travel, like streetlights help illuminate. We'd have directional hearing, so we could select what we wanted to listen to. And we'd be able to turn off hearing, like shutting our eyes to bright lights I suppose. As for clothing- swishy pants should be outlawed.
