Childhood food rant

I just read an article in the Chicago Tribune about how schools are trying to make parties more healthy food-wise for the children as a part of the push toward making schools be more healthy. Although I applaud the effort and think it is critical to teach children how to make healthy choices and then to provide those healthy choices in schools, I ( Read more... )

Totally in agreement with you here - and for the record, I find it a travesty that they changed Cookie Monster's obsession to a "sometimes" food.

I'm okay with Cookie Monster changing to cookies as a "sometimes" food. I think Cookie Monster has a lot of influence over children, and though he's a monster, I would prefer that he be providing the right model for children. Besides, from what I hear, he still goes nuts and shoves the food all over and makes a huge mess....it's just now it's veggies and fruit and stuff that's good for him. I haven't actually seen the change, since I no longer watch Sesame Street, but I suspect he still gets cookies in every episode.
