Shunkashuutou means the four seasons.

Ryutaro loves spring.
He loves the feeling of fresh spring breezes blowing into their faces as he drags Kanon around to look at all the beautiful blooming flowers.
None as pretty as you, he’ll say, and she’ll blush prettily and lean her head on his shoulder as they sit under the peach blossom tree.
Spring means sakura, and for him it brings quick goodbye kisses at the fork in the road where their paths split on the way to school, a fleeting innocent kiss underneath the sakura tree at the split in the road. It’s a beautiful start to a spring morning, with pink petals swirling around him even as he continues, alone, on his walk to school, carrying the essence of Kanon along with him.
He loves spring nights when they can just sit on a hilltop, just the two of them, gazing at the stars in the clear sky with fingers intertwined atop the cool grass.
Look, she’ll cry suddenly. A shooting star!
He’ll stare at the streak of light for a while, and then laugh softly as he ruffles her hair.
That’s an airplane, he’ll say, and she’ll scrunch up her lips in an adorable pout.
Besides, he continues, I don’t need a wish, not as long as you’re here with me.
She’ll beam at him, as he wonders if her heart quickens when he smiles, like his does when she smiles.
You’re cheesy, she says, but I love that about you.
Yes, Ryutaro loves spring.

Kanon loves summer.
She loves it when Ryutaro runs to wait for her outside her school, and drags her off for impromptu ice cream dates. They sit at the same little shop for hours on end, talking and talking and occasionally eating their ice cream.
Don’t waste money, she likes to say, and they end up sharing ice cream cones instead.
She adores those sneaky indirect kisses, but adores it even more when Ryutaro kisses her goodbye on the way home, and she can taste the faint flavor of sweet vanilla.
On hotter days, they’ll end up camping out at his house, in his room with the air conditioner turned on at low temperatures. Despite that, Ryutaro always seems to feel the heat, and more often than not he ends up taking his shirt off in an attempt to cool down.
She’ll poke at his developing abs, and giggle when he blushes in embarrassment. It’s cute to see him flustered, she thinks to herself.
They’ll sit back against his bed and watch television shows all day long, homework forgotten in a corner, and she finds excuses to lean back against his bare chest, and feel the warmth radiating out of him, as his breath tickles the top of her head.
He never understands why, but lets her do it anyway.
Kanon knows she feels safe in his loose embrace, but never says it out loud. Sometimes, she feels that she doesn’t need to, because it’s a kind of feeling that’s expressed without words.
Yes, Kanon loves summer.

Ryutaro loves autumn.
Autumn brings cool winds, not cold enough to need thick jackets, but cold enough to make Kanon shiver slightly when they blow at her. At times like that, he’ll grab her hand in his, always feeling surprised at the coldness of that pale hand, and does his best to warm them.
He always finds it strange that her cheeks warm up before her hands do.
He likes it when they walk through walkways lines with trees, their leaves decked out in red and gold and fiery orange. The wind will blow and dislodge the leaves, showering them in a mock-snowstorm of blazing leaves.
Occasionally a leaf will float slowly down and settle itself in Kanon’s hair. He secretly likes it when that happens, because he gets the excuse to reach out and pluck the leaf off, his fingers lingering in her hair and sifting through the fine strands for longer than is necessary.
She never complains.
He also likes it when Halloween comes, and they end up fighting for candy in Kanon’s bedroom, arguing about who gets to keep more of the Cadbury chocolates and who gets the packet of gummy bears.
They’d end up lying on the floor, out of breath and laughing, side by side with their hair mingling.
To tell the truth, Ryutaro knew he wouldn’t mind giving all the candy to Kanon if he had to, but he fought for it because she looked cute even when she was worked up, eyes flashing in mock rage.
Yes, Ryutaro loves autumn.

Kanon loves winter.
She loves it when she opens the door to go to school, and sees Ryutaro already waiting there, his breath white fog curling in the frosty air.
You look cold, he’ll say as they walk to school together, and he’ll take off his own coat and drape it around her shoulders.
The coat is always warm, just like his body, and she feels bad for making him shiver in the cold without a coat. But every time she attempts to give it back, he’ll refuse.
She almost always ends up wearing his coat to school, but she secretly likes it. The coat makes her feel as though Ryutaro’s by her side all through school, supporting her when she’s about to die from the piles of homework.
She likes it when they crash his house on weekends, and sit on the couch huddled together to watch old movies. His embrace is warm, perfect for cold winter days, and more often than not she finds herself falling asleep in his arms.
She especially loves it when the Christmas season comes, and mistletoe adorns houses everywhere. It’s a good excuse to snatch surprise kisses all day from an unsuspecting Ryutaro.
She knows she doesn’t need an excuse to kiss him, but the face he makes when he’s surprised is too cute to pass up.
Yes, Kanon loves winter.

Well, says Shintaro as he and Ryutaro watch the clock ticking down to the New Year, which season this year was the best for you?
Ryutaro tilts his head to think for a while, and the answer forms itself at the tip of his tongue.
~
Which season did you like the best this year, Kanon-chan? asks Yuuka as they walk down the dark street towards the shrine, to queue for the New Year prayer.
Kanon considers the question for a while, before the perfect answer appears in her mind.
Oh, she says, it was-

Ryutaro opens his mouth.
Well, he begins, it definitely had to be-
~
-all of them, Kanon finishes, not knowing that somewhere else in Tokyo, Ryutaro has just uttered the same phrase, at exactly the same time.
She smiles at Yuuka, cheeks flushed from the cold, as Yuuka raises her eyebrow at the answer.
All of them? she asks skeptically.
Kanon nods emphatically, but refuses to elaborate upon the reason why.
It’s because, she would have said if she had, all year round…
…I was able to share the seasons with my precious one.
