The four-leaf clover (or yotsuba) represents luck.

Inoo looked down confusedly at Hikaru.
“Hikaru,” he said, the note of humour undisguised in his voice, “what exactly are you doing?”
Hikaru didn’t even lift his head.
“I’m looking for luck!” he chirped happily, while continuing to search.
Inoo raised a skeptical eyebrow.
“…Luck?”
“Yeah! Want to help me?”
“Are you serious? Luck? You look like you’re trying to experience the daily life of a mole,” snorted Inoo.
“Look here,” sputtered Hikaru, stopping for a moment to look Inoo in the eyes, “to find one, you’ll need to get down on your hands and knees like this!” He waved around his soil-covered hands to prove his point.
“But to the extent that you’re burrowing into the ground?”
“Hey! Finding a four-leaf clover takes a lot of work, okay? Now, you helping or not?”
Laughing, Inoo squatted down next to Hikaru and began looking.
Barely five seconds later, he rocked back on his heels, something green pinched within his slim fingers.
“Found one.”
There was a clatter as Hikaru dropped his magnifying glass and trowel, and he whipped around to peer at the plant in Inoo’s fingers.
There was a pause as Hikaru silently counted the number of leaves.
“Inoo-chan, you’re really lucky!” enthused Hikaru, grinning, “I took so long, and couldn’t even find one! You’re like a lucky charm.”
Inoo grinned, and handed the clover to Hikaru.
“Here, you can have it.”
“Yay!”
Hikaru beamed as wide as he could, and flung his arms around Inoo.
“Inoo-chan’s the best!”
They sat in silence on the clover-covered field for a while, before Inoo took a glance at his watch.
“Eh? It’s 5pm already! We should go back, before Yabumama accuses us of being late and causing him to worry. I don’t want him flapping at me.”
Hikaru laughed, and got to his feet, pulling Inoo up.
“Let’s go, then!”
They began walking off the field. On the way back, Inoo suddenly noticed that one of Hikaru’s hands was holding his, the other clutching his clover-finding tools.
“…Where’s your four-leaf clover?”
Hikaru grinned goofily at Inoo.
“I decided I don’t need it,” he declared happily, “after all, I already have my own lucky charm, Inoo-chan!”
He tightened his grip on Inoo’s hand, to prove his point. Inoo smiled back.
I’m lucky too, he thought to himself, as they walked down the concrete sidewalk hand-in-hand under the evening twilight.
Lucky to have found someone like you.
