Summary: Inoo wants to adopt an animal to bring home. Hikaru protests.

“But please?”
Hikaru shook his head violently, hair flying into his face as he did so.
“No. No. Nononononono.”
The small black cat in the cage in front of Hikaru mewled softly and stared at Hikaru as his voice quavered slightly in fear.
Inoo laughed.
“Just kidding,” he said, grinning, “I’d never adopt a cat. You’re scared of them, and I think it would fight with Jam and An anyway.”
He got up from where he was squatting on the ground, and headed deeper into the animal shelter. A few steps later, he paused and turned back to look at Hikaru.
“Coming?”
Like I have a choice, Hikaru thought to himself, before following Inoo into the back of the animal shelter.
Inoo had paused in front of a large cage sitting on a wooden table.
“Aww, aren’t they so cute?”
Hikaru squinted as he peered inside the cage. The young volunteer opened the cage and lifted out one tiny fluffball to place on Inoo’s palm.
Inoo poked the tiny pink nose of the white ball of fluff, and cooed when it shook and let out a tiny sneeze.
“Look, Hikaru,” he squealed, sounding exactly like a girl - or like Takaki when someone had stolen his hair straightener - while looking at Hikaru with wide eyes, “isn’t this the cutest little thing ever?”
“It’s just a fluffy animal,” sighed Hikaru.
Which was obviously the wrong thing to say, because Inoo’s mouth scrunched up in a pout. Evidently, overexposure to cute cuddly fluffy animals had caused Inoo’s girly side to become a little too prominent.
“Can we adopt him? Please?”
“Why are you asking? It’s your apartment.”
“But you visit so often it’s more like ours anyway.”
Hikaru bent down and squinted at the ball of fluff.
“Don’t you already have Jam and An?” he asked.
“But they’re more of my family’s pets rather than my own. So can we adopt this please?”
Hikaru was extremely prepared to dig in his heels and protest some more, when Inoo decided that pulling out all the stops was in order. Suddenly, Hikaru found himself bombarded by a pair of watery puppy-dog eyes and a cute pout.
The white ball of fluff also stared at him with heartbreaking black eyes, its small pink nose twitching.
And at that moment, Hikaru couldn’t tell which was more adorable.
“Fine,” he groaned, giving in, “we can adopt the bunny. Now stop making those eyes at me!”
Inoo broke out into a wide smile as he hugged Hikaru, before pulling away and cooing some more at his newly-adopted bunny.
As they left the animal shelter, Inoo linked his arm with Hikaru’s.
“Thanks for letting me adopt him,” he said, smiling.
Not like I can deny you anything with those eyes, thought Hikaru.
“I’m not cleaning up its poop and stuff though,” he said out loud, and Inoo laughed.
“Fair enough.”
There was a pause, before Inoo broke it again.
“What should we name him?”
Hikaru thought for a while.
“Fluffy?”
“But that’s so literal!” Inoo protested.
Hikaru huffed.
“Fine! Then Cotton Swab or something then!”
“Hey!”
“Well,” grinned Hikaru, “it does look like one.”
Inoo smacked Hikaru’s arm.
“Forget it, I’ll ask Dai-chan tomorrow. He obviously has more naming sense than you.”
Laughing and half-arguing, they disappeared around the corner.
