Keito ends up leaving for Britain on an immersion programme.
JUMP all misses him, but they have no choice but to carry on activities as usual. It seems to be a replay of Akanishi’s hiatus from KAT-TUN to go to the USA, and it seems that the fans think so to.
When he sees many on a fan forum he just happens to click on speculating on whether Keito might pull an Akanishi on the rest of his group, Yamada feels like creating an account and defending his boyfriend right then and there.
But restraint wins, and he resorts to closing the window and dialing Keito instead, overseas charges be damned.
“…Yama-chan?” Keito sounds bemused and very grainy over the phone, “isn’t it past 3 in the morning back in Japan?”
Yamada blinks as he realizes this is true. “I don’t care. I just wanted to talk to you.”
Keito laughs, a deep chuckle over the phone, smooth and warm like melting caramel.
“Miss you too, Yama-chan.”
“When do you think you’ll be able to come back?” To us? To me?
“Hm~” Keito hums thoughtfully over the line, “…six months, at least?”
Six months?! Yamada wants to whisper in a freaked-out voice, I can’t live without you for that long!
He squashes the drama queen inside of him, and instead replies calmly.
“I see. Have fun during your programme, ne?”
“Yeah.”
And Keito hangs up.

It’s pretty obvious to the rest of JUMP that Yamada misses Keito. A lot. He doesn’t shove Chinen off his lap, he doesn’t argue with Ryutaro, he doesn’t even fight with Daiki over strawberry-flavoured Pocky anymore.
Something else is obviously on his mind and distracting him, and Yuto is willing to bet his limited-edition pair of autographed drumsticks that it’s Keito.
So one day at break Yuto walks up to Yamada, not-so-politely shoves Chinen away, and pulls up a chair, sitting down and looking at Yamada intently in the eyes.
“Yama-chan,” he begins sternly, “we need to talk.”
“Ooh, you sound like you’re breaking up with him,” titters Takaki from the BEST corner.
Yuto whirls around, scowling, and flings the nearest thing on hand - a half-empty juice can - at Takaki’s perfect hair. It makes contact, though thankfully none of the liquid spills out.
Amidst Takaki wailing and Yabu comforting him, Yuto turns back to Yamada.
“Why are you sulking these days?”
Yamada blinks owlishly at him.
“…I’m not sulking.”
“Sure,” Yuto rolls his eyes, “because you not going all drama queen over Daiki taking all the strawberry Pocky from your bag is perfectly normal.”
Yamada huffs and crosses his arms.
“Hey! I’m not a drama queen all the time, okay?”
Yuto smiles, and lowers his voice to a whisper.
“You miss Keito, don’t you?”
The following silence is a more than adequate answer, and Yuto sighs.
“He’ll be back soon enough, Yama-chan.”
Yamada shuts his eyes.
I know…but it doesn’t ease the hurt.

It’s his birthday today, three months after Keito waved goodbye at Narita airport before running to the gate to board his plane to Britain.
Yamada is slouched on the sofa, watching a random anime on TV with the remnants of a strawberry shortcake strewn all over the coffee table. His phone vibrates suddenly, startling him.
His eyes widen as he notices the caller ID.
“Keito?” he asks, the moment he picks up the phone, “what’s up?”
“Happy birthday,” laughs Keito on the other end.
“You called just to say that?” Yamada asks, feeling incredibly touched.
Keito laughs.
“Open your door,” he says instead.
Confused, Yamada does so, and nearly shrieks in surprise.
Standing on his doorstop, grinning with his phone to his ear, is one Okamoto Keito.
“Oh my god,” breathes Yamada, swiftly ending the call and jamming the phone into his pocket, “aren’t you supposed to be in Britain?”
Keito just smiles.
“What, and miss your birthday?”
Not knowing what else to do, Yamada follows the only trail of conscious thought he has and flings himself at Keito, crying and hiccupping and laughing all at the same time.
“I love you,” he says, “you’re the sweetest boyfriend in the world, did you know that? This is like, totally the best birthday present ever.”
Keito hums, and buries his nose in Yamada’s hair, patting the younger boy’s back.
“I love you too.”
