…“The rain won’t stop…” you say as you look down…
Hokuto stands at the doorway, staring at the sheets of rain pouring down from the dark sky. It’s a major rainstorm, and Hokuto miserably regrets leaving his umbrella at home while rushing out for rehearsals that morning.
How am I going to get home? groans Hokuto internally. It’s a long way to the bus stop from NHK hall where Shounen Club rehearsals are today, and Hokuto doesn’t fancy running through the needle-like raindrops to the bus stop, easily a ten-minute walk away.
Fuma has run home with a family appointment, and Kento appears to have disappeared somewhere, presumably home. Yuugo lives in the opposite direction from Hokuto. Thus, it is impossible for any of them to lend their umbrella to Hokuto.
Giving up on staring at the rain, he opens his bag and starts rummaging through to see if he can use anything as a makeshift umbrella.
Finally, he manages to excavate his windbreaker from the mess in his bag. Keeping the windbreaker open on top of his head with one hand, and clinging protectively to his bag with the other, Hokuto takes a deep breath and begins his walk through the never-ending rain.
…I slanted my umbrella so your shoulders wouldn’t get wet…
After the fifteenth giant puddle, Hokuto suddenly feels as though the rain’s stopped falling on him. But that can’t be, he protests, because he can still feel the rain hitting the puddles so hard that little drops are bouncing up and making his socks soggier than they already are.
He looks up, and is greeted with a blue plastic canopy and a megawatt smile.
“Hey,” says Kento. “You do realize that walking in the rain with a flimsy windbreaker probably isn’t the best course of action to take.”
Hokuto blinks rapidly several times before his mouth catches up.
“Um,” is the best intelligent answer his mouth gives him.
Kento laughs, a sweet warm sound that causes Hokuto’s heart to suddenly flutter a little for no reason.
…You looked up at me and drew a little closer, right?...
“We can share,” he says, and Hokuto, glancing at the size of the umbrella, suddenly has misgivings about whether they can both fit under the nylon canopy.
Kento catches his look, and grins, before reaching out an arm and pulling Hokuto close to him. Hokuto sputters, but Kento’s grip is decidedly firm around him, and he decides it’s probably more practical this way, and will likely keep him less soggy.
…You shiver a little as you hug my arm, still smiling…
Kento’s body, Hokuto thinks vaguely, is warm. Especially nice for leaning into when his shirt’s half-soaked and he’s shivering in the cold wind.
The wind changes direction, blowing straight into his face, and instinctively his grip on Kento’s arm tightens.
…I will tell you my feelings properly today…
“Kento-kun?”
“Yeah?”
Hokuto makes the mistake of looking into Kento’s eyes just as he was about to say what he’d been itching to say ever since a while ago. Suddenly, his confidence flies off somewhere far away, and his mind goes blank.
“…..Um…”
Kento smiles, eyes crinkling into little crescet-moons.
“Take your time,” he says, and Hokuto nods slowly.
Their shadows stretch out in front of them, two figures under one umbrella, and Hokuto suddenly feels as if this walk could go on forever, as if he can take as much time as he wants before they reach the bus stop.
After all, anything can be ‘forever’, if he’s with Kento.
…Under the shared umbrella…
