[drabble] Summer

The two of them sit side by side on Keito’s front lawn.
“It’s hot!” wails Yuto, attempting to fan himself with a soggy envelope. “I miss winter.”
Keito sighs longingly.
“Winter seems like a distant dream,” he says.
Yuto grumbles in agreement.
“If only we could somehow make it winter now.”
A sudden recollection struck Keito.
“Winter?”
“Yeah,” replies Yuto dreamily. “I wish it could snow.”
Keito grins.
“I have an idea.”

Yuto raises his eyebrow.
“This is your idea?”
Keito brandishes a scoop.
“Yeah! Watch, I’ll show you.”
He digs out a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and flings it at Yuto.
The ice cream lands with a splat on Yuto’s hair.
“Instant snowball!” proclaims Keito gleefully, and Yuto’s eyes light up.
“Payback time!”
Yuto grabs the container of chocolate ice cream, and an ice-cream fight ensues.

“I guess I like summer after all,” Yuto declares, exhausted after finishing 7 tubs of ice cream.
Keito snorts.
“Because of the creamballs?”
“Partly,” Yuto laughs.
Keito glances at Yuto quizzically.
“But also,” Yuto continues, “because I get to do this, which I can't do in winter.”
He reaches over, and holds Keito’s hands in his.
“And that’s what makes summer special.”
