Where in the World is it OK to be Killed if you're LGBT?

UN general vote decides it's okay to execute people based on their sexual orientationThis is really messed-up. Homophobia has won out in a global context and the passing of this amendment basically means the UN as a whole will not condone executions based on people's sexual orientation. What's really disturbing is that some states which do not have homophobic policies - such as Cuba - either because old habits die hard or because they regard anything that challenges states' absolute sovereignty over internal matters as something they wish to oppose. I think that's why China voted the way it did, though sucking up to the African states it is trying to have as clients may be a facrot too,

It wouldn't surprise me in the case of the PRC. They've been known to wave away human right issues before in exchange for economic deals with various African states, and it's an open secret that the PRC have shipped arms to countries such as the Sudan.

On the flip side, I wonder if we should read something into Serbia voting against the amendment, given their tendancy to schmooze up to Russia.

Given the extent to which they got hard words from the EU over banning Pride a couple of years ago, I would think a desire not to offend Western Europe is a factor here.

That's my reckoning too. Interesting that Albania and Turkey were absent...I have to wonder if Turkey at least didn't want to be caught between the EU and the Islamic World on this issue as well.
