Yeah, it's been awhile. I guess LJ just hasn't been at the top of my priorities of late.
$400. wasn't going to send any of these people to the poor house. My sister isn't radically any more wealthy than the rest of them. The difference between her and them was the fact that, for her at least, it was a no-brainer. She would do whatever it took to make it happen. She was willing to sacrifice. Clip discount coupons if necessary to make it happen. Skip eating at restaurants if necessary. The others just wanted to "low ball" things and consider shorter, cheaper alternatives. The contrast between her "can-do" attitude as opposed to their "it's too expensive" attitude was striking.
Something else that really pissed me off was when I received an email from one of my stepmom's sons (actually penned by his wife) where they were crying the blues that the $400. was beyond what they could afford. I found out a bit earlier that they could afford, for themselves, a trip to the Carribean --- and they had my dad and

but if I could spare the $400, I would. If I couldn't spare the $400, I would contribute whatever I *could* spare.
