I'm really anxious to get to the Navy. I can't wait to leave and yet, I don't want then end of October to come. C is finally home, I hope she had a good trip in Africa. I haven't talked to Lizzie or Mel in a week or two. Lexy is having problems with her parents, I hope she ends up alright.
You guys probably haven't heard, but there was a devastating hurricane that ripped through New Orleans in Louisiana about a week ago. Hurricane Katrina was probably the worst natural disaster to hit American soil in the entire US history. Thousands are dead and more add to the list every day. New Orleans was the 35th largest city in the USA and 80% of it is under at least 3 feet of water. It will be without power for at least 3 months and most likely not possible to live in for another year or so. Most people lost everything, their homes, their jobs, their family members. It stops to make you think... what if that had been me. What if I were living down there, if I had lost my job, my house, even my life. That just makes you get down on your knees and thank God that you are still here... This is a time when all of America should unite in the wake of a disaster yet there are some that completely take advantage of everybodies loss. There are hundreds of looters, taking things out of stores, robbing houses. People shooting at rescue workers trying to save them... Makes me sad.
This is almost similar to 9-11 except with 9-11 most Americans have somebody to be mad at because it was man caused. What are they going to say now? Blame God? Blame the Earth? They can't say shit and yet they still find time to argue. Kanye West has brought race into the mix. He says that the President of the United States, George Bush, doesn't care about black people. In the aftermath of thousands of deaths of United States citizens, he wants to go call out George Bush, saying he doesn't care, as if he could have prevented this. http://www.smithappens.com/kanyeredcross.php
