I'm a little speechless, but you must be in a bit of shock? That's pretty full on. It *could* have been a special op I guess. No reason why that's impossible, although she really shouldn't have told you about it if it was. But... could it be that if she was injured while on duty with the armed forces, that reflects better on her financial situation than she's making out to the lawyers? I mean, from what I understand, injury in defense of the nation cops you a pretty reasonable support scheme, right?
What's spinning me out is wondering whether she is actually consciously making stuff up (not this necessarily as just discussed) or whether she actually believes what she says. This idea always spins me out. I mean sure, everyone's capable of self-deception to a point, but this seems to far exceed that generally accepted standard...

But I was talking with one of my psych mates who said that this kind of radical pointless lie is pretty common in someone with frontal brain damage and doesn't necessarily mean anything personal - "confabulation" - basically you have memory loss, you try to remember but draw threads together to fill in what happened, and whatever story you come up with based on whatever thoughts were active at the time, you reconnect with and believe.
All I can say is, I can't believe how wild and crazy things are with H and I am super, super glad that is in my past. I can't wait to the time when I stop learning new strange and disturbing things about H's behaviour - only 1.5 more years to go, hopefully! :P
