so me and luc went on this crazy long road trip and many an exciting adventure was had. this is probably going to be super long but i'll try to break it up as best i can.
my astoria goonies adventure
so we went up to astoria, oregon which is where they filmed the goonies. the goonies is my all time favourite movie ever, in case you didn't know. so it is hilarious there because it's a super small town and they don't really have anything going on but i guess tons of people go there because of the goonies. the goonies house is on the map of the town! no joke. we took tons of pictures in front of all the goonies landmarks. also it turns out that kindergarten cop was filmed there and you can totally see the school from the porch of the goonies house. odds are that if i know your address i sent you an astoria postcard. we stayed in this hotel called "the lamplighter" which was awesome because it was run by these 2 old people and i think we freaked them out when we said we only needed one bed. when the pictures are developed i'll totally post them.
they turned lipton's convenience store (as featured in a cut scene from the movie) into a coffee place and i think all the people thought we were crazy when we were taking pictures outside of it.
p.s. nikki - i totally got you a present.
washington - the other state adventure
so we went to washington to go to this concert called the sasquatch festival. it was wicked awesome. i totally saw jason schwartzman!! he was standing right in front of us at one point, i almost died! turns out he plays with ben lee now. i have seen ben lee quite a few times before and never thought much of him but he totally rocked at this show. i think he was poppier or something. before i always felt he was trying to be an australian dashboard confessional. he sang this song called "catch my disease" and i loooove it. i talked to him after and apparently it is not on a cd, but will be soon. i was hyped. then the shins played and that was really fucking good. their keyboard player is really adorably goofy and some guy got up ass naked on stage and was dancing. pretty hilarious. then came the best part. the postal service. dude, words can not describe how awesome they were. ben would be singing and playing the guitar and then he'd hella throw his guitar at some roadie and run and start playing drums and it was just crazy and awesome. also when they sang "nothing better" ben and jenny hella acted it out. its hard to describe but it was great. well worth the $50 tickets and 2 state trek to get there.
also at the super market in washington they have the aisle labeled "pop". not soda, but pop. crazy.
other oregon stuff
we went to portland on the way back south and much to my dismay i actually really liked it. i was so prepared to not like it and just be all "san francisco is so much better" but really i couldn't. they have awesome record stores and really thats all that matters. also they had an urban outfitters and there is no sales tax in oregon. i was majorly hyped. so we needed a hotel to stay in and ended up going to the most crack den hotel of all time. i will not get into how spooky it was, just know that we had already paid and left anyway.
yesterday we went to university of oregon in eugene. since in was memorial day mac court (think basketball) was super locked up but we did find coach kent's parking spot and luc took a picture of me standing in it. as weird as it sounds i was excited about that. also i went to the dairy queen for the first time. they have this thing called the blizzard and its all ice cream and good stuff and its really, really good. don't ever eat the regular food though.
the new david sedaris book "dress your family in corduroy and denim" came out today. i'm gonna go read it, i suggest you do the same.
