He can't avoid her forever, though she's quite sure he'll try. He simply can't. He's predictable to a fault, but naturally he would never admit it. He's sitting there, half a glass of scotch to complement the two too many he's already had in his hand. He's not doing anything other than recovering from the chill of the balcony, adjusting to the shift in light. He looks up.

"He seems very...tall," he pronounces quietly, holding her gaze a touch too long before availing himself of his drink.

"So he is," she replies casually.

She shrugs and tries to change the subject, "The media wasn't too pleased with the outcome of the trial today. Do you really think she was innocent?"

He forces a tired laugh that ends in a shake of the head, his eyes closed. "Is that why you're here? For my opinion of the case? How did yours go?"

'Where's what's-his-name and why aren't you with him?' being implied.

Ordinarily he'd rest his arm on the back of the couch, thumb within caressing distance of her cheek. He crosses his legs, shifts his weight towards the glass of scotch.

She sighs, "I was second chair; it wasn't really my case - it was a show, really. He lost, of course; he usually does."
