Dude, your Advanced Photography teacher must have been a retard if he couldn't pronounce your name. How the hell else would you say it? It's so obvious what it should be. Well, obvious if you're not a moron, I guess. :)
I don't particularly care for my name (Rachel). I don't like it, it's boring and I don't really feel like it's 'my' name. Its meaning (little ewe/one with purity) is goofy on the ewe end and kinda cheesy on the purity one. Mum said she had a toss up between Rachel and Rhiannon. I wish she'd picked Rhiannon, at least it's a bit more interesting. I tend to prefer more androgynous or masculine sounding names for some reason. Like Connor or Devon. If I had to choose a new name, I'd likely go with Morrighan which is an ancient Irish goddess kind of figure, often associated with battle.
I've heard it pronounced Tah-tay-nah, Tah-tee-nya, Tah-tah-nah and I'm sure I've heard others but those are the only bastardizations I can think of currently.
When I went down to the South last week...oh boy, they just didn't even try to pronounce it. They just looked at me and arched a brow -_-
I like Morrighan! It's definitely gender ambiguous for those not in the know.
Awwww xD I'd definitely like to change my name, at some point. Emma is the most popular girls name ever over here, and whereve I go there are at least a few other Emmas around @.@
But yeah, people butcher a lot of names that you'd think were pretty obvious how it's pronounced, even after they're corrected. I had a friend in school whose name was Lorelei, and for four years straight our physics teacher called her "lorra-lee", despite being corrected every week xD
