English majors don't necessarily have to become writers, or even do work related to English. My brother works for a market research company, and his head business manager-lady has a degree in Psychology, which has nothing to do with her job description.
but... some English-related fields that come to mind are magazine and newspaper editing, which I know there's some market for. You probably have to start by writing articles first, but that's not too bad, right?
and if anything, a degree in English opens a lot more doors than it closes. Just hang in there. :)
Hell, a degree in anything opens more doors than it closes. Except liberal arts... but I don't even know what kind of degree that is.
And hell, you don't even need a best-seller to make money. I mean, to make a lot of money... yeah. But there are a lot of shitty writers on the shelves of Barnes & Noble, and even they get money.
That's not to say your a bad writer, it's just an example.
