Catherine Tate?!?!!

Again?! I honestly never saw that one coming although there have been a couple of rumours floating around for the last day or so. But... bloody hell. Not sure how I feel about that - although on the bright side there'll be precisely zero chance of her falling for the Doctor so we're done with love sick assistants.

doctor who, gobsmacked

I don't find Catherine Tate funny, but she was a great deal less awful in "Runaway Bride" than I was expecting and I'm very tired of all the romance. If they develop Donna along Teganesque lines it should be OK, though personally I wish they'd go down the 'multiple companions' route for a while.

No, I never saw that coming - wasn't even romotely on my radar ! I'm surprised that Catherine Tate actually is willing to set aside practically a year to make Doctor Who as I thought she'd be in demand elsewhere but perhaps she now wants to move on from the sketch show idea and into full-time acting.

At least it's not the drippy doctor that everyone was so sure would get the part - I love it when the papers etc get it so wrong !!!!

I'm always slightly sceptical of these casting ideas but always get proved wrong so I'm sure she'll work out fine. As you say, hopefully we're now done with love-sick assistants and, as ghyste says, it could have a Tegan-esque quality to it with her being more argumentative and stroppy which will be a nice contrast. I know people moaned about Tegan being too stroppy at times but in the context of the series as a whole it made a nice change to have a companion who had a moan !!
