*slap* Thanks, I needed that

As I read the Word the other day, I was really convicted. I John 3:16-17 says "We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. But whoever has the world's goods, and sees his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him ( Read more... )

mmm..selfishness sucks... anonymous December 1 2004, 03:13:20 UTC
Josiah! It's Jared. Dude, thanks for that thoughtful post, I have been challenged lately to get my eyes off myself and on other things, people who need it and such. Pivitplex's concert "food for the hungry" was the beginning of that, I just want to be less selfish, I know that all I care about is MY comfort, MY happiness, it's all about ME, blah blah. I can't stand it, I want to be generous, giving, caring and helpful to others. God has been pulling me through that. I see where you are coming from though, because I feel the same way sometimes, like America is so sick. Dude, you are the best brother in the world, thanks for being such an awesome witness, and for serving the Lord, that means so much to me. Love ya man, Your bro in Christ (and in real life) Jared Schlender

Jared, you should start a blog! I would be interested to read what goes through your head each day. Blogs don't always have to be serious. So far, mine has been, but you can be weird if you want to.

Amazing isn't it? I often times see homeless people here in Boise... there seem to be a lot for being such a cold place... but I usually just turn away. Why? The 'feeding the addiction' part may have part to do with it... but I often times do it to avoid the guilt of not doing more. Looks like I have a ways to go.

Last night in my home community, Tony brought up a very interesting point that's sent my mind reeling. He said there are 2000 verses in the bible regarding giving money to the poor and only 7 talking about homosexuality. Now take a minute to think about where the church's focus tends to lean. I have more to say but I don't think it will come out right; will probably sound more like an angry rant...so I'll refrain. But I will say one thing: I am completely guilty of putting my focus in the wrong place most times. I think we all are.
