FWIW I am really proud of Governor Scott for telling the Feds no thanks on the high speed rail. Where are people going to realize that the government is broke? Borrowing money from the rest of the country to build a rail to help people get to Disneyworld is just nuts. Like my idol Chris Christie before him, Rick Scott said nfw ( Read more... )

Puke away. Just send the money here.

Only an idiot would refuse money that has already been allocated and will be spent regardless of whether they take it or not on the grounds that it's time to stop spending. If you want to stop spending focus on money that has not already been authorized and cannot be unauthorized without legislation becoming law.

for not the first and certainly not the last time, i strongly disagree with you. Spending money just because it was allocated is one reason we are in this mess. This money was allocated over a year ago if I am right. If it was that fucking important why wasnt it spent a year ago?

If at the beginning of the year I set my family budget and allocate $1000 for a new HDTV in June and my finances go south in May, I am not going to buy that TV even though its been allocated. We need to stop spending money. We are in debt and going deeper. That this 4 billion dollars and reduce the deficit this year. You have to start somewhere.

That's completely the wrong analogy and missing the point. You control your budget; you decide what to spend and not spend. Scott does not control the Federal budget. He has no say in what is spent therein or not ( ... )

The OSD is looking for people to do research in how to keep the military organization relevant in the future. The top of the foodchain knows that the tides are changing and that money will be sparse. If I get a chance, I'm going to post about the ramifications of this round of attempts to cancel the F-35(JSF) second engine. The executive summary is that that whole program is going to be DOA ( ... )

Something you could be legitimately proud of is the fact that Tea Party Republicans and anti-war Democrats in the House just combined to defeat funding (at least for the nonce) for a new fighter engine that establishment Republicans, including Boehner, wanted to keep in the budget.

That's an example of money that has no yet been allocated that is not necessary!
