Where is fair?
So, I came across this article, and I'm curious what you guys will have to say about it. I think we've all used the expression, "that's so gay," in a way 100% not meant to insult gays/lesbians. besides, no one said being a moron was bad or stupid. they just asked if she had ten moms. they were probably her friends anyway. and i just skimmed the article, but i don't recall seeing the administration's stance on her being harassed.
at any rate, it's not even the same. the word gay needs to stop being stigmatized in a negative way. no one goes around saying "that's so nigger", now do they? it doesn't even matter that straights don't mean to offend gays when they say it. because in the end, it is offensive and all it does is reinforce their hegemony.

In this case, the girl could have meant literally GAY, because if she DID have more than one mom, in most cases, it WOULD be gay... if that makes sense, it does in my head.
Also, "its so gay" isnt usually used as an insult towards a particular person, its usually used like, "its so stupid." In this case (which I think is different from the case in the article), I dont think there is need for a lawsuit, but I do think that we all need to be more cautious of what we say, because we shouldnt be saying 'gay' as substitute for 'stupid.' But I do think that it has just become a normal thing to say, and that most people who say it arent homophobic. I think that it is 'part of youth culture' as the article says.
Gay kids shouldnt be beaten up, and those who beat them up SHOULD be punished, but I dont think that suing some girl for saying 'thats so gay' is how they should be tackling the problem.
