so i was just reading my friend's journals and I noticed Catherine thought 100 miles in 24 hours was a lot, and I started thinking about this.  It is interesting because I put about 60 miles on my car every day. When I go to visit my bestfriend and godkids I travel 60 miles in each direction, so 120 miles in any given visit day (about 3x/month) and ( Read more... )

I was mostly surprised at the 100 miles because it didn't feel like I was in the car that long and I was mostly driving between a few relatively close locations - but bouncing around like a pinball in a pinball machine!

It is definitely all about Perspective, though. :-) I wouldn't consider anything under 3 hours in one go "a long trip" - but my relatives from NJ are like "OMG YOU DROVE OUT HERE JUST FOR THE DAY R U NUTS?!?!" :-P

that is so true! Everything in NJ is measured in mins too, not miles. We have to face it, it can take 3 hours to get from Newark to NYC which is about 50 miles I think. It sounds like your turkey day weekend was pretty fun. I miss your egg poof. Nobody makes it like you do.

Awwww.... do you want the recipe? It's REALLY easy and great for a "special" breakfast when you don't have much time in the morning.

i'm pretty sure i've got the recipe, and I tried it, but it was nowhere as good as when you made it. I'll check at home though, I think its in my blue book.

I understand what you mean about the mileage thing. After having driven 1000 miles in one day, 100 feels pretty meaningless. Before Megan and I got married, I drove to Rochester soooooo many times, and that's about 300 miles in one direction!

Oh yeah, my parents moved to Binghampton finally! In case you missed that in my LJ. That's just 150 miles of driving now way now :0) Makes me immensely happy. I can get there and back on one tank of gas.

Well, Rockwell Collins bought a plant in Binghampton, so my mother transferred to it as a "consultant" of sorts to help them transition into Rockwell's system. As a veteran of the company and of their systems she was an ideal candidate.

My dad's health on the other hand, has taken a turn for the worse. We're not sure if/when he'll recover. He's started having breathing problems and asthmatic like attacks. There are few other things, some of which are direct result of the tests that have been run on him. Either way it's not good. If he ever recovers, he's planning to try and solicit financial support to open a christian coffee shop. It's been his dream for a long time and he thinks that Binghampton with it's SUNY school would be the ideal place to make the attempt. He's already started making connections in one of those super sized local churches. Hopefully he'll be able to get the interest he needs.

How about your parents? How are they doing?

I'm happy for your mom, she's a sharp lady. Sorry to hear about your dad. I'll keep him in my prayers. The coffee shop sounds pretty neat, as long as it is subtle I'm sure it will succeed. My parents plan to try to retire this summer and they bought a home out here on Camano Island, and hope to move in this coming summer. I hope it works out for them.

hehe, not quite, Trans Siberian Orchestra. You may recognize them from the miller light commercial where the house had the lights that turned on and off to the music.
