My hard drive in my laptop died. So if anyone knows a reasonably priced data recovery service I'd appreciate your reccomendation. It seems to be a logic error rather than a fried disk or something like that

I just bought Vista Ultimate 64 bit from New Egg as an OEM copy (installer one computer only version). It was about $160. I don't think you'll find Vista for less than $100 anywhere... not that isn't illegal. With vista, I've found it to be extremely obnoxious if the software doubts it's own legitimacy.
Good luck getting your stuff back. My dad's been trying with an external harddive for the last 6 months with little success.
Is he trying to use software to recover stuff or is he sending it out to a data recovery service? From what I read, and what people have told me every time you try to access data that isn't accessible you reduce the chance of ever getting it retrieved. I found a place that says it shouldn't be much more than $300 to get most of my files, so I'm sending it to them tomorrow.
I know the MS people who get a discount can get VISTA ultimate for less than 100, I just also know that I've pulled too many favors from my main MS friend to ask him to pick up a copy for me.
He's been inquiring with companies, and they seem to be unwilling to work on an external harddrive. Not sure the whole story there, just his complaining about wishing he could get his stuff back.
Having a friend who can do favors is always nice, but it does catch up with you eventually. You might just have to bite the bullet...
for the hard drive I am going with these folks http://www.adrdatarecovery.com/services/data_recovery/single_drives.html?menu_id=5 I don't know if they'll do his but they seem to sound pretty knowledgable, but it is pricey depending on what the problem is. I had basically been too lazy to back up the last two years since I gotten that computer so now its like the last two years of my life have disappeared as thats where all my photos and my MBA classes papers reside. I have learned my lesson and will begin to back-up regularly.
