I have some wool-washing stuff that I got at the yarn store. I haven't ever used it, but Kennita (the yarn store owner) recommended it. She said to fill the washer with cool or tepid water, turn it off, add the wash stuff and swirl it through the water, add the wool and let it soak for a while (maybe thirty minutes? less? I can't remember). After the soak, gently squeeze the wool to work the soap through. Don't agitate it too much as you don't want it to felt ( ... )

I'd bet you can also use the wool washing stuff by hand since it's a PITA for you to use a washer in the manner specified.

Yeah - nearly impossible. But I should be able to get an idea of how bad it is... hopefully not past the point of no return
