The early last week mom asked me if I was into "emo" and myspace. I have never heard this word before and I didn't see what my space had to do with anything. She read the newspaper and it basicly said emo it is a subculture of jr. high kids thinking it's kool to be depressed and cut themselves. wow those are twisted lyrics - dance dance is such an upbeat sounding song I never put all the lyris together to realize that it wasn't. The term "emo" means "emotional" and it's like punk but less upbeat and energetic I guess. . .I don't understand though how you can dress to a type of music - I never really got that. . . like if you're into hiphop does that mean you have to dress like a gangsta - I don't really think they go hand in hand but that's just me and I'm cheap and hate clothes shopping lol

OMFG don't connect me to emo! I just like hoodies and well, without glasses I can't see.

Anyway longgggggggggg ago emo arose from punk, but that was when emo was real music and not crappy pop punk with guys whining about how girls break their hearts. Stuff like Rites of Spring, Mineral, etc. MUCH different than the music today. This was like back in the 80s I think... before my time.

Then somewhere in between it started getting a bit wussier and whining about girls more, but it was still pretty good. Brandtson was awesome back then, and Knapsack and the Promise Ring and stuff like that. This was maybe 8 years ago or so.

Only recently has it turned into a bunch of whiny guys who dress like goths and whine about girls. Even then I'd probably be able to deal with it if the music was any good... but it usually isn't. It's super simplistic power chord stuff that from a song writing perspective is all pretty much the same.

Bah.
