Sometimes, after eating at my desk, I will leave the office and pay Au Bon Pain 71 cents for the privilege of a banana and a place to sit and read. For some reason they cut the stems off their bananas. For this reason, I now carry a plastic knife in my purse, so I may liberate the fruit by sawing.

I had a co-worker from Hawaii who taught me the secret behind opening bananas--start at the non-stem end. If you pull on the other end, it'll pop right open! :)
