Total number of books owned:
Hundreds. I lost count after 100 just in my room, and my books are scattered in various rooms across the house!
Last book bought:
The Princess Bride by William Goldman. It's the abridged version which was apparently slated as the original Florinese by S. Morgenstern was very political, whereas William Goldman himself described this version as "the 'good parts' version", and thus only concentrated on the satirical fairy tale. It's fabulous!
The reason I bought it was because it was on the Books Etc staff picks shelf, and the note underneath it said 'read pg 52', and so I did, and decided that on the utter hilarity of that one page it would have to be mine!
Last book read:
I am halfway through 'The Princess Bride', but the last book I read (or, in this case, re-read) was Stephan Fry's 'The Liar'. I love Stephan Fry, and am bowled over at his extensive knowledge, which the book pays tribute to. Although, at first I sat there reading and thinking 'what the...' due to all of the time skipping and seemingly very strange events, it's just fantastic. I want more Stephan Fry!
Five books that mean a lot to you:
1. Mort, Terry Pratchett
The first Terry Pratchett I ever read, and was completely blown away. It's so amusing! I remember reading the blurb of the book (before I had even bought it) and knew it was going to become my all-time favourites - "Death comes to us all. When he came to Mort, he offered him a job".
And thus was Meg's love of all Discworld novels sparked.
2. The Deg and Mongoose Bible
Because I own the only one on the planet ;)
3. About a Boy, Nick Hornby
Because the book is just magical. I read it way before the film was released and it had quite a profound effect on me.
4. Bringing Down the House, Ben Mezerich
Thank you to this wonderful book for teaching me how to play Las Vegas and earn my millions!
5. Darr, this is so hard! It's a choice between my classics, such as Jane Eyre, or more Terry Pratchett (i.e. The Hogfather - all time BEST Christmas story *cough*parody*cough* ever) or non-fic Danny Wallace 'Join Me', which made me laugh until I cried (what DO you do with a following of 500 people and didn't have any original intentions other than to be able to say you have a following of 500?)
*explodes*
