I live close to London, but I don't visit there much so I'll try and help where I can...

- I've never got a London bus in my life, they confuse me. Stick to the tube, it's much easier.
- Oyster card (i assume you know what one is) will definitely be needed, else your money will just go on tube tickets, because EVERY entry to the underground will require payment, be it in the form of an oyster card or a day-ticket. Ticket machines tend to eat tickets though (something I never learn) so it may be worth getting one.
