goodbye longhorns, hello Narvik!

My parents sold the last of their cattle today. They are very glad, and I'm glad for their new freedom. I feel a bit wistful too - no more longhorns in the backyard so beautiful and colourful and peaceful. :-( I feel a wave of farm-related nostalgia washing over me - I miss my old mare, the dog, my cow - all long gone. I can't grasp Nordic pronounciation... it annoys me. It's such a great sounding language.

Yes, it's challenging. I'm glad I have the cds, I had some other books before but I put off starting them because I knew pronunciation would be an issue - and I'm glad I did as it is quite different from I would have guessed!

Ooh, Norwegian! Very cool. I think if I go back about 300 years I might have some Norwegian blood in me...not that it's particularly relevant, but there it is.

We grasp for what we can coming from North America. It's funny, over here noone seems to really care, but maybe it is an english thing not to, or maybe I haven't caught them talking about it. We certainly discuss it a lot in Canada, and in the US too. :-) The call of the roots! I'm looking forward to going there.

i totally know what you mean...try explaining the going "back" to Hungary thing to roland. "you have no relatives there, your families villages aren't even in hungary now"...blah blah blah

I wonder if Tanja knows much about NOrway. I know she can speak Norwegian-you should email her.

Have you heard from the Berlin hotel?
