Grandaddy

I don't know why I've underestimated this band so much, but Grandaddy is amazing. The only reason I really gave them a second chance was because Mr. Tobias likes them. Tobias actually does have pretty good taste in music, I guess that's due in part to the class '06. So I gave Grandaddy another try. And I still didn't really like them all that much, except for one song "Shangri-La." And then I gradually eased into them, especially digging "Skateboarding Saves Me Twice." I still haven't fully gotten into them, but listening to their older albums helps. I don't even remember listening to the Sophtware Slump, but apparently I did. I can't imagine missing the song above, though. The thing I like about Grandaddy is that the lyrics are so simple, which is probably what drew me to "Shangri-La" in the first place, because they didn't overload such a powerful instrumental with words. The same is true with "So You'll Aim Toward The Sky," I'm really not sure why I like it so much since it's kind of empty and the lyrics don't match the tone, and maybe I'll feel different about it tomorrow. Right now, however, I love it. Maybe Grandaddy just closes their albums with really great songs (since "Shangri-La" is the last track on Just Like the Fambly Cat).

Also when I heard the first track on the new Coldplay album, I knew I'd like the whole thing. And I do!
