...That's probably because all of my writing lately has been confined to strange e-mails to
yatsuka. But to be fair, she writes me strange e-mails first. Or I'm studying Japanese. Or I am working. Or...yes.
But
agentduckiechan tagged me. This means I must comply. I tag...EVERYONE. BWA HA HA HA.
1. Make a list of 5 things that are in reach:
1) A box of Wheat Thins 2) A Book on Homebrewing 3) The cord from my ipod 4) Brian Friel's Dancing at Lughnasa 5) My ancient cellphone which does not accept or send text messages and I like it that way.
2. What's the last book you read?
Uh...last one I read from was Richard Wright's Native Son. I may prep that one to teach to some AP seniors. I am thinking they might not read it as it is second semester and it is long. The last one I finished was As Always, Julia, which is a collection of letters between Julia Child and Avis DeVoto (a fascinating woman married to noted historian Bernard DeVoto).
3. What is one item of clothing you wish you could always wear?
I always wear skirts. I love skirts. They are comfortable. I like comfortable.
Ergo, I would wear a long, black skirt.
4. What's your occupation?
Secretarial assistant, SAT Verbal tutor, high school English teacher (sometimes), substitute teacher (all subjects...although this is not very successful sometimes). At one point in time last year I held 5 different jobs in education and secretarial work. At the same time.
5. Dark, milk, or white chocolate?
White chocolate is yummy. I like chocolate, but not to the fanatical levels most people seem to...
6. Who was the last person you hugged?
Actually, since my dogs are not technically people, I think it was the owner of a local Chinese restaurant who always walks everyone to their car after a meal and personally thanks us for dining with them. Also, my family are faithful customers at more than a few restaurants where the waitstaff knows all of us. At one of them, I never know what appetizer will show up...
7. What random song just popped in your head now?
"Colder Weather" by the Zac Brown Band. I kind of love it because it is beautiful and sticks with me.
8. What's the one thing you need the most now?
A job and my own place to stay.
9. What was the last text message you received?
Prepare yourself for this response: I don't get text messages on my phone. And, if you haven't fainted dead away, here is another simply blasphemous response...I don't like texting. I had a phone that did it while I was in Ireland and most of the things people text border on annoying and asinine. A final blow on the technology front...I don't have a Facebook either.
Why yes, I am a luddite. How did you guess?
10. What did you do today?
I woke up, thanked the Lord I didn't get a 5:30 in the morning sub call, went into work and typed things, did a walkthrough for concrete grinding, wrought iron fence repairs, and block wall trash enclosure repairs, went to post office, ate lunch, went to meet people to check out water leaks, got a call from an awesome secretary for work for the rest of the week, came here. I am currently typing. If I were to go on, it would be a bit like Tristam Shandy, except not as witty.
11. What was the last thing you bought?
Uh...lunch yesterday? Boba and Pho on Sunday...? In terms of material stuff, I bought a cookbook and The Young Victoria on DVD last Wednesday before seeing The King's Speech.
12. If you could afford to go anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Ireland. Then I would not leave. I would hunker down in a small village and be forever known as the crazy American and the new person in town several decades after arriving.
13. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Sad answer is sad: I just want a job! My original plan was to teach for 5 years, study for the GRE, not become an educational burnout statistic, and then go get a PhD...hopefully from somewhere cool.
That is, of course, not working out.
14. Where's your tattoo/Where would you like a tattoo?
No tattoos and there ever will be. Basically because a) really?? Why?? Someone explain! b) That stuff has never been FDA tested, so who knows what is in all that stuff and finally c) When you're older and have to explain there things, I think it would be awkward.
15. What are you doing this weekend?
Going to see Avenue Q in Hollywood (so glamorous sounding!) and...I have no idea. Anyone have any idea what I should do? I probably will prep my next longterm subbing gig, actually.
16. What do you think you should do more?
Uh...hang out with people. Work less. Write. Sing. Practice piano. Cook. Bake. Everything but work.
17. When's the last time you think people are assholes?
Pretty much every I drive in the great state of California. One day I will write my guide to driving here.
18. Have you ever been to a gay bar?
Once this ace went to a gay bar. It was pretty interesting actually. :)
19. What's the last movie you saw?
"The Curse of the Golden Flower." I love Imperial Court dramas (recs anyone???), although I totally had an MST3K commentary going on throughout this one. I probably annoyed my friends, come to think of it...hah. Pro tip for the keeping of sciathan file: If its not drama, expect inane commentary.
20.What are the things you can't wait to happen?
1) Avenue Q! 2) The Secretary to call me back so I know if I have work on Thursday and Friday! 3) I want a real teaching job! 4) A Vacation! Any Vacation! 5) I want to understand Japanese!
And...I'm out!
