The Impossible Astronaut Part II (The Sane Version)

Okay. I've watched it a second time.

Some thoughts as I go, in no particular order:

* SO MUCH FORESHADOWING in Doctor's death scene.

* Probably not immediately obvious to British audiences, but Canton Everett Delaware III is also a mash-up of various place names in the U.S. (Canton is a city in Ohio (well, it is a city name in several states, but Ohio in the most famous), Everett is a city in Washington, and Delaware is a state), which, considering the dominant clue in the telephone conversation, might mean something.

* Considering there is a pirate episode later on, the bit of random pirate humor we were treated in to start off might not be idle frivolity.

*"How long have Scotland Yard had this?" Snark.

* I read a crack theory (don't remember where) where you have to watch how many times you've looked at one of the aliens before it kills you. That photo, depending if we're being all Weeping Angels, may be terribly significant.

* Totally missed the screamer line implications the first time. I thought it was a classic Who homage to the shrieky companions.

* Why do the BBCA commercial breaks suck so much?

* The way River manipulates the controls reminds me of Romana very much. Come on pet theory, work out. Or have River be 12 and then there are all kinds of mind breaking craziness stuff going on.

* I never had the largely negative opinion of River that fandom has had since Silence in the Library (a title which I no longer think is idle), but I like her more and more as time goes on. Also, I think a lot of people's reaction to her is the fact that we, like the Doctor, are being asked to trust her with not real reason, which is an incredibly uncomfortable. And kind of narratively brilliant.

* So many Silence in the Library parallels. Also, I swear it is the same girl in the library as in the space suit.

* Don't think Amy is pregnant. The wine scene had to be calculated at the beginning. Otherwise I foresee a letter writing campaign in the future. Also, I can't believe that no one has complained this episode is too dark for the kiddies.

* I like the darkness, so far. It feels...more mature than RTD's stuff because it is more then the Doctor angsting about being a survivor. Dunno, feels more universal in a way to me.

* This might be the first time that I have felt compelled to re-watch something so close upon the heels of the first viewing.

* The more I watch Matt Smith, the more seriously impressed I am!

WHY IS IT NOT SATURDAY NOW?
