Latest Interview

This past Friday I interviewed at Applied Physical Sciences.

Michelle went with me so we left Thursday night after she got off of work... at 8pm... and then we didn't actually leave until closer to 9! APS is in Groton, CT and is 6 hours away from State College, PA. So, after including stopping to eat and get gas (and just looking for open places to eat and get gas) we didn't get there until 4am. Luckily my interview didn't start until 10am so I got a few hours of sleep. When I got to the place and finally met my point of contact, whom I have been emailing for a month, he said the most important thing was where we went for lunch. This implied to me that they were trying to sell me on working there and not so much drilling me. I like this. Keep in mind that my contact guy is a graduate of the same program that I'm finishing. So I got to talk to the CEO, the president, program managers, and the guy they have doing the job that I would be doing. The job sounds great! I would be a transducer engineer and involved in the entire process of design, modeling, optimizing, prototyping, testing, debugging... I see this as "not boring".

So I'm kinda excited about this job. This is surprising because I want to get closer to home and to warmer climates. But Saturday, after going to a little church (and Michelle was a sport and went with me), we were gonna met up with my contact guy again to show us around but he was on his way back from RI. So he gave us directions to Paul's Pasta Shop, which is excelent excelent EXCELENT, and we met up afterwards. He took us around and showed us Groton, Mysitc, and New London. It was kinda weird, because of being close to the water it kinda felt like home but then turn a corner and its like New England.

All in all I think I would enjoy the job and I think the location is better than here so I think I'll probably take it should they make me an offer. Assuming nothing moe appealing comes along.
