If there is any interest being taken beyond a brief question by the Soutaichou, I am completely unaware of it. Really? Are none of you responding to this alarming sensation in the slightest? When spirits are outside of their swords, they can be harmed by you. When they are visible to others, as I have observed, they are in danger from others.

Not necessary. You are to perform intelligence sweeps across Seireitei, recording the zanpukuto spirits you discover along the way. Try to establish which Captains and Vice Captains are aware of the manifestations, and take photographs for the records of every spirit you come across.

With all due respect, Kurotsuchi-taichou, I think I speak for most of us when I say I know the dangers that face my zanpakutou--and others--while it is manifested. I simply fail to see how yowling about it at other people will help--they're out. They can't go back without issue. That's...really all we know. If your own zanpakutou, or your lieutenant's, or anyone else in your division's, is manifested as well, then it served to reason you had all the physical subjects you needed.

And with all due respect, Abarai-taichou, I would like to know how widespread and frequent the problems being experienced are, and yet I must only estimate because I have not been given adequate data. It should not be my responsibility to seek out this information; there was once a time when such things would be automatically passed to the Twelfth Division for investigation, and in a state of emergency such as this, I could request any information I liked, no matter how intimate it was, if it meant protecting the integrity and safety of all of Soul Society.

You would think that I, who perhaps understands the science behind zanpukuto considerably more than you, might be called upon to reveal more about the nature of the problem, but my presence has not been requested, and the only posts I have seen regarding it have been from ex-Shinigami outside Seireitei that are experiencing difficulty, made in public posts.

Do people inside the walls really have nothing to say on the issue?

Or are you simply seeking the advice of another

In all honesty, sir, it just didn't occur to me personally to say anything to you. This isn't the first time we've had issues with the zanpakutou in the recent past and previous investigations didn't turn up much of anything useful. Figured this would just work itself out, too.

The fact that you are a scientist has nothing to do with it. It's that you're a huge douchebag.

I have sent you a report via interoffice mail detailing the occurrences in the Eighth Division, Captain Kurotsuchi. Expect it to arrive in the next courier batch.

If you need to consult any of our members more closely, please have the paperwork sent to the administrative office at the Eighth and I will see that they meet with you or your staff.

[In the afternoon, a tidily written report arrives containing a list of Eighth shinigami whose sword-spirits have taken material form, the dates and times when the spirits appeared, and whether or not the spirits were perceptible to others. A few also have mentions of shikai powers being somewhat weakened; Nanao's own name appears on this list.]

My fukutaichou will be recording data -- I will see that she makes a written request before investigating in the Eighth Division.

If only all Divisions were as well run.
