Impossible to do in my district's polling machines -- they require you to cast *a* vote.

And I'm not trekking half an hour out of my way to write in Frank the Goat.

I absentee vote, so I didn't need to trek.

However, we're allowed to submit blank votes and on the one race where there were *no* candidates I did write "Frank the LiveJournal Goat" (I thought I should specify in case there was another Frank the Goat!!). :)

Done and mailed. I even voted Frank the Goat for "Precinct Commitee Officer." Apparently no one wanted to run.

As far as the original post...yes, yes, I feel your pain, yes, yes, I'm equally (probably, in fact, more) disgusted.

If nobody runs to a position, it can be filled any number of ways. It varies by office to office. Someone can be appointed, usually.

Most of what I saw was candidates running unopposed. There was a block to auto-vote them in, which I didn't do.

For the first time in my life I voted a party tickent, and just absolutely CRINGED doing so. But I am also aware that there are only two currently viable parties in the country, neither of which I like at all, but it is heavily weighed in the favour of one.

Not that it mattered. Apparently, the only other people in my STATE that voted other than about maybe one hundred and fifty people I know personally, voted the other party. (OK. That's a *slight* exaggeration. But not a real big one).

*sigh*

Quite frankly, as a veteran...I'm insulted. Really.

I don't understand how people can be proud to be part of a democracy, and not vote...

Done, and done.
(which makes it sound like I voted twice)

I would never send in a blank ballot. There would probably be some old lady (of the party I most dispise) who is "volunteering" and just decides to go ahead and mark my ballot for me.
Who paranoid? Me?

;)
