There is a cognitive disorder where you become convinced that someone you know really well isn't really that person. They may look like them, and you can't exactly explain why they're not, but you just know they aren't. I'm not quite sure what it's called, but I read about it in a text book and realized it happens to me from time to time.

Thankfully it goes away and I've never had to do anyone in with a lamp.

We watched a film about cognitive disorders in class (introduction to cognitive sciences), and a guy with this disorder was in it. It was creepy watching him interact with his imposter parents.

Capgras' syndrome?

It's (roughly, said the layman) recognizing people but not getting any emotional reaction to that recognition, thus leading naturally to the conviction that something is *very not right* about this thing that looks like your friend or lover, but does not feel like them.

i'm just so utterly blown away by your writing. this entry is fascinating, but so is every other one of them. i'm a reader and to this day i have never read anything that pulled me out of my physical reality into wherever (and whatever) you want reality to be. never stop writing; the world is a richer, fuller place because you do
