After his run-in with Not-Sheppard (thank God it wasn't evil Not-Sheppard, that would have been even worse) Rodney McKay was in what could only be described as a foul mood. Oh, sure, his plans weren't completely ruined but it was as close as it could get and it was all Sheppard's fault. Forget the island and its weirdness, Rodney was going to place ( Read more... )

John was spending most of the walk from the compound back down to New Atlantis steeling himself for the inevitable: hilarity (from others), confusion (anyone else might be switched) and annoyance (Rodney).

Of course, Rodney managed to get two out of three before John even realized what was going on. One moment he'd been looking off to the side, wondering if Cash was out there in the jungle somewhere, or with his body, and the next, there was a familiar yell and Rodney was all over the ground.

John made his way over to Rodney and crouched over him, honest-to-God concerned if he'd hurt himself. "You okay?"

"Fine," Rodney wheezed at the unfamiliar yet pretty Asian woman. "Fine. Just my pride...bruised...and my ass. Ow, my ass," he groaned. It was probably a litany repeated by hundreds of the island's denizens, but for different reasons.

Clambering to his feet, slowly, as not to strain anything that was already sore, he looked down at the woman. "You didn't see that whole thing, did you? Me, uh...falling in a manly and not at all embarrassing fashion?"

For a second, John almost considered messing with Rodney.

A second later, he decided that he totally could.

"Didn't see a thing," he said, stepping back as Rodney stood up. Holy crap, was everyone taller than Mayko? He was looking up at Rodney freaking McKay - that seemed to be the very picture of all that was wrong with the universe right then.

"Uh-huh. Good," said McKay, dusting off his shirt. He peered at the woman. "Say, don't I know you? You're Jill's friend." He must have seen them having coffee or working in the lab together or something. "May...something. Mayko. Right?" He looked pleased with himself for remembering that much. Jill would be proud.
