The more time Rodney spent on Michael's computers, the less he liked what he saw. Downloading as much information as he could to his laptop and tablet was the first step, which he'd accomplished fairly early on, and now came the arduous task of translating it. He'd considered enlisting Carson's help in deciphering some of the medically-oriented ( Read more... )

Hours had passed since he'd arrived on the beach and it was only now that Jill was realizing she'd never even known his name. He'd been the security guard at NorBAC for a year, maybe longer, and she'd never even learned his name. Maybe it was better that way, maybe if she'd known him personally he would have been more real, more human. Harder to hate.

There was no hate now, but it would come. She knew it would. Right now, there was nothing. Her fear had given way to a distant sort of numbness, her breathing deep and her hands steady. It wouldn't last.

For awhile she'd debated going straight back to her hut, but being alone didn't appeal to her right now and so she was currently in New Atlantis, going around to the back of Teyla's hut where she knew she would find Rodney. At least she was aware enough not to sneak up on him this time and she stood in front of the computers for a moment before she said, "Rodney."

"Mmm. Hi," Rodney said absently, without his brain really kicking in. It did after a moment, though, and it must have detected something off in Jill's voice, for a second later he looked up.

There was definitely something wrong in her expression and the only thing he could think was Oh, God, what have I done now? But she didn't look angry, as such. He'd seen that expression before, somewhere, but he couldn't place it right then.

"You okay? You look like you've just seen a ghost."

"He was here," Jill said dully, her voice steady and monotone, and the only indication she was at all agitated was in the way she wrung her hands slowly, twisting her fingers uncomfortably. "He was here on the beach. He showed up and detonated the bomb and we saw it."

If she'd been slightly more aware she might have realized that she wasn't making any sense, she wasn't explaining anything clearly, but it had been difficult enough to try to explain it once. Having seen it again, having to watch it a second time, it was all Jill could do to keep herself together. "Mayko and I. We saw it," she explained quietly, dropping her hands to her sides for a moment before she began to twist her ring around her finger in a slow, calming motion.

Rodney's first thought went to Michael and he frowned. Why would Michael have a bomb? But then Jill was talking about Mayko and that just confused him even more. He set aside his laptop, as quickly and as carefully as he could, and stood up, making his way over to Jill.

"Slow down," he said, touching her shoulder. Shock. That's what it was, she was in shock. He'd seen it in his teammates, hell, he'd gone through it himself a few times. "One thing at a time. Who was here on the beach?"
