I just had sex on a big pile of money. How's your afternoon?

[This evening, Naomi will discover an unusual sight waiting for her at her new home when she returns from her clinic hours for the night. Javert is not attempting to relieve his daily boredom with nothing but a blank sketchpad, some crumpled paper air-planes, and a pen today. He is not busying himself with neatening up for an evening shift. He is not drinking obsessively through about five full pots of coffee, and the smell of roasted liquid caffeine is not so heavily entrenched in their living area as it’s been. And he certainly has not resorted to tirelessly making newspaper clippings of facts, figures, and stories that catch his eye, adding to the ever-explosive collection of thumbtacks and paper scraps on his “office” - if you could call it that - wall.
What things he slings himself into while he has been forced to work a job with a measly 8-hour-per-day schedule! He has surprised even himself, on occasion, with the lows he has achieved.
Today, however, Naomi finds none of this.
In fact, today her husband is reading, ( ... )

But after slipping out of her lab coat and unceremoniously draping it over the nearest empty chair back, the sight of her husband absorbed so completely in a book wipes the unhappy look off of her face immediately.
Well, this was a pleasant change to what she usually came home to.]
Reading? [Kicking off her heels, Naomi quickly crosses the floor to stand beside her husband, bending to catch a peek of the title of whatever has his attention. Was it one from her collection?]
What's the occasion?

Required reading, [he explains patiently. He examines her face closely and curiously, noting the sudden relaxation he sees there. It has not escaped Javert's notice that she has been wound tighter than a spool of thread lately; it was unlike her. His thumb just so happens to be placed atop the title of the book in the top margins. Was he teasing her, doing that on purpose? Is that a trick of the light that's shining in his gaze?] Do you think I would read so hefty a volume because I like it?
[And it rather is heavy, too, thick and weighted like a brick upon his lap. It is roughly the size and shape of a Bible, or a book of Psalms, or a dense textbook, or even the Complete Works of William Shakespeare, none of which are particularly in character for a man so resistant to fine literature as Javert to read. What could it possibly be, then?]

[Even after that fake lifetime of being a mother of four rambunctious children, Naomi Javert still isn't exactly the most patient of women at times.
At her husband's completely obvious tease, she slips her much smaller hand over his, attempting to pry his thumb away gently from the title. Somehow, in the span of less than five minutes, Javert has managed to not only draw his petite wife out of her glum mood, but to also bring a soft smile to her face.]
Absolutely not, [she replies with a soft chuckle, curiosity sparkling in her gaze as the woman attempts to get a peek.] So what is it? What are you up to?

"Oi, toots. Somethin' in those frogs. Never had it happen before. You're a 'Doc, right? Figure this shit out, would ya? I've got plenty of blood to spare."
"And I've got our feathery friend on lock-down. Looks like he took a hit of it, too. Want some of his?"

You're at the Nest? Give me ten minutes and I'll be there. [Even if her tone is all neutral and professional, the woman is internally giddy at the thought of stealing a sample or two of Greed's blood.]

[There's a shifting noise - Greed had been enjoying a little R and R .. ] I've got the sample from our tilted-halo friend. Want to take your own when you get here?

[A pause. Her lips press together firmly, irritation not even attempting to be hidden in her tone.] No. I'll take whatever you managed to get yourself, but I'm not laying eyes on him.
[If Gabe hadn't spoken of their falling out before now, a creature of Greed's intelligence would easily be able to put together the pieces from that statement alone. Two of his dear possessions were no longer on the best of terms.]
