As a very young child during the Rhodesian Civil War, Naomi's parents were killed by a FOXHOUND operative named Frank Jaeger (codenamed Gray Fox). Not able to bring himself to kill the small child, Frank decided to instead take her in and adopt her as a younger sister. So she traveled to America with her big brother to begin a new life. It was there that she became enrolled in school and while she spent her time in classes, Frank spent his time away in battle, risking his life while Naomi studied.
As a result of growing up with complete strangers, Naomi began to ask a lot of questions that Frank was unable to answer. When she was finally old enough, he revealed to her that truth behind how he had came to adopt her. He told her of her parent's death in the war and that he had been a soldier during the same war, but he never admitted outright to her that he was the one to kill them. Naomi, of course, saw nothing but kindness and caring in his actions, only causing her to idolize her brother more. However, she began to become more and more interested in her background. What was her real name? What were her parents like? What was her own ethnicity? With these questions in mind, she turned to what would become the center point in her life- her study of genetics and nanotechnology.
With the help of her and Frank's adoptive father/benefactor, Big Boss, Naomi succeeded in getting a doctorate in genetics, her speciality being gene therapy. Diving into her research, her ultimate goal was to find out about her background and, essentially, find out who she was by studying her own genes. She believed that everything written in people's genetic codes- their background, their personality, even their future. As deeply as she delved into the very chromosomes and cells that made her up, Naomi was unable to find out who she was through a microscope.
When the woman was barely twenty, the great Zanzibar Land Uprising occurred. The 'Legendary' soldier Solid Snake snuck into the base Outer Heaven and killed Big Boss in an explosion, leaving Frank a cripple and barely hanging onto life. Grieving as the only family she had known had been so fiercely ripped from her, Naomi promised revenge against Snake as his death was now her one obsession. Frank was taken in by the medical chief of FOXHOUND, Dr. Clark, and was mercilessly experimented on with the woman's new gene therapy treatments. The cruel, yet ambitious doctor grafted a strong exoskeleton onto his body to return and greatly improve on his mobility and strength, making his powers surpass most humans. Joining FOXHOUND and becoming Dr. Clark's assistant to save her foster brother from more experimentation, Naomi aided in Frank's escape from the facility and also covered up for him after he murdered Dr. Clark, the woman who had kept him captive for so long.
With her brother free and Dr. Clark out of the picture, Naomi took up the now open position, becoming FOXHOUND's medical chief and chief geneticist. This allowed her nearly unlimited access to the Pentagon's biological weapons program and helped her receive recognition as one of the greatest geneticists of the century. It was there that she was able to develop the engineered retrovirus she would one day come to call FoxDie. A virus she would use to get the revenge she so wanted on Solid Snake.
So she waited until she had an opportunity to get close to the solider, until finally, she was assigned to join Solid Snake's support staff during the Shadow Moses Incident. The CIA already wanted Snake injected with FoxDie to kill off all of the renegade members of FOXHOUND, so the good doctor decided to alter the virus so that it would include Snake as a victim. She wasted no time in injecting him with FoxDie, along with a few other things she was ordered to use to keep him alive during the mission: nanomachines, nootropics, and an anti-freezing peptide that would keep his body from freezing since he was off to Alaska. By the time that Snake even suspected her of anything it was far too late, the virus was already coursing through him waiting to kill him at any moment.
However, by the end of the Shadow Moses Incident, Naomi realized that the Snake that left her without a family was not as cruel as she had previously imagined. She had even come to respect him slightly for how kind he could be to people he didn't even know (such as Otacon). Before the mission was over, she confessed to what she had done, forgave Snake for crippling her brother, and accepted her arrest quietly.
After spending some time in a maximum security federal prison, Naomi was saved, presumably by Liquid Ocelot, and was set free. It was here that she disappeared for a few years, no doubt hiding as she was now listed as a 'Most Wanted International Terrorist'.
Not having been able to locate her, it must have come as quite a surprise to Solid Snake (who had evaded his own death by FoxDie) when a video transmission was sent to him from Naomi. In the video, she pleaded for his help as she was being held captive by Liquid Ocelot and forced help him hijack a very extensive military based computer program called the SOP (Sons of the Patriots) System. Waiting to be saved, Naomi continued to work for Liquid Ocelot, hoping that the legendary hero wouldn't let her down.

[Personality] Naomi Hunter is the type of woman who skirts around the line dividing good and bad, only stepping to each side briefly before retreating back to the comfort of her blurred gray area. She manipulates those in her way, generally having no qualms with betraying anyone to see to her own means, but everything she does holds a greater purpose, usually for the honest benefit of someone else.

Because of that, it shouldn't be much of a surprise to learn that the doctor is well aware of just how damn amazingly intelligent she is, so forgive her if she's a bit smug about it on occasion. Though very obviously book smart to all she'll meet, don't forget that she possesses some street smarts in that lovely head of hers as well. As a woman attempting to get by in a man's world, she's had to use her beautiful looks quite often to get ahead when being smart alone just wouldn't cut it.
Despite how easily she double-crosses those she holds no true affection for or allegiance to, Naomi is entirely and selflessly devoted to the few she actually loves: her family. As a woman who believes so completely in the laws of genetics, she would like nothing more than to know just who she's come from and who is biologically a part of her. It may be all in the past and completely irrelevant towards who she is now, but it will always be a focus on a research and an insatiable itch at the back of her thoughts.
She's a generally calm, collected, polite, and patient woman, considering the sort of people she has had to deal with on a daily basis all these years, but when riled up she can turn into quite the stubborn, hotheaded bitch. A fighting/screaming match with her will not end well for either party, for she will usually not give in no matter how ridiculous she may become. But those kind of emotional explosions happen very infrequently, thankfully, especially outside of those she's intimately familiar with. For interactions, Naomi is a complete professional and very loved by those she interacts daily with. She is a flirty creature though (and will likely always be one) so expect her to throw in a bit of friendly teasing into her doctor affairs.
Because of the cancer threatening her life, Naomi has turned into a bit of a guarded woman when it comes to friendships, keeping most others at a distance. It doesn't at all stop her from being the social butterfly she so enjoys being, but it does mean that her real friendships are far and few between.

During the first AU event Naomi experience in Somarium, she was given false memories that expanded over forty years, making the woman believe she had been born and raised within the Dream City like almost everyone else.
Living a rather average life with her younger brother David, the woman graduated from college and immediately jumped into work as a dream scientist/researcher. It was here, very briefly after her entry into that position, that she crossed paths with Eugene Javert, a lowly police officer looking to get help from the scientists on a recent crime. Sparks flew immediately, though nothing seemed to come from it at first besides witty banter back and forth and some highly intellectual conversations. But then, when the case was complete and her help no longer needed, Javert appeared again and so began a very brief round of dating before they rushed to spontaneously elope.
Javert, who was thirty-five and very fertile at the time, saw to it that Naomi gave him four children--Achereau, Matthieu, Daniel, and Kay. And though she had never seen herself as a mother before this, Naomi certainly rose to the occasion to be a wonderful mother who took care of and loved her family deeply.

Aged down to twenty-two for her second AU event, the 1920's time period saw a completely different side of the doctor.
The beautiful Naomi Hunter grew up as an extremely intelligent woman who simply did not have the opportunities to head down a professional career path as she had in her other lifetimes. So when her two older brothers (the twins David and James) went off to war, she was left alone and had to find some way to take care of and provide for herself. It was then that she began to mix into the world of gangsters, using her exotic look to grab the eyes (and money!) of some very wealthy mobsters who enjoyed her company and attention. It was shortly after that when she picked up a job as a Burlesque dancer at Mama Mille's Speakeasy.
She quickly rose though the ranks at the club to be the star of the stage and her name is well known in all of the right circles throughout the city. Though many she interacted with may have been unaware of her incredibly powerful position, Naomi held a hell of a lot of sway and revenue over members of the mob, though she was also secretly slipping her hands into the feds' deep pockets at the same time. Her true loyalties were unknown to most and very vague to the rest, but she had managed to find a lasting partner in her newest (and last) lover, a federal agent by the name of Javert. Naomi, who had amassed quite the database of 'customers', was more than happy to share the info she acquired with him and had become a kind of informant for the man.
Though the pair had become engaged to be married within the month, their relationship had somehow managed to remain a complete secret for the most part, thankfully. Neither of them wanted to be offed before they managed to marry and escape this nasty mob business in the city.
