Only a dream, Yosuke. Why wouldn`t I be?

I dreamed a hole through my head the other day. You never know. Besides, that seemed like it would be kinda depressing if I knew what the hell was going on.

That sounds very unpleasant, but thank you for the concern. It isn't needed.

...It's a little complicated to explain.

[Oh, look. It's Naomi's favourite little troll.]

Poor, poor, Naomi.

[Troll sounds about right.

Naomi is actually surprised to hear from Road. It`s been so long.]

Still around, are you?

[Just wonderful.

Naomi looks anything but pleased to be speaking with you.]

What`s that?

[It's... Unusual to think of Naomi as being a mother, let alone the temporary mother to his closest friend. This woman was meant to be his sister in his true life, yet any memories he retained of her now in Somarium were skewed and incorrect; the false memories this world presented them were jarring, persisting in their goal of leaving the young soldier feeling off. Naomi was his sister yet according to this world, she was also an aunt. Familial relations were still nearly meaningless to him yet he found himself still attempting to decipher them, for her sake.

What strikes him most about this dream is the way Naomi cradles the child in her arms. He doesn't fully recognize how to classify the emotion that's present but he's capable of reading the expression on the woman's face prior to the end.]

...You appeared happy.

[And even with her worry, Naomi's smiles always come easy when Frank is around. The fake life hasn't changed a thing in her view on him.]

I can look happy sometimes.

No, that was different. [He shakes his head, thinking through his words carefully as he tries to himself understand it.] It was a different sort of happiness; a joy I have not seen you express in the past.

Oh, I see. [The woman isn't quite certain what to say in response to that. She wouldn't lie to Frank, like she has to everyone else who's asked, but it isn't a topic she wants to discuss.]

It was just a very different life than what I'm used to.

*Danny's dream-self's words echo in his ears with a strangely final quality, like a hammer striking an anvil: that wasn't the way things were supposed to go. That week of bliss was all fake, and he knows they've all known that ever since they woke up from it. Besides, he already has a mom. He has a family back in his world. A family he needs to get back to, a family who loves him, and a wonderful, crazy family he values more than life itself ( ... )

[As perceptive as the woman usually is, it`s only natural that the boy`s unpleasant reaction is received negatively, even if that hadn`t been his intention in the first place. It actually hurts Naomi, surprising enough, something she is often guarded against allowing. The simple dream about the teen seems to have done more damage than she`d have believed possible ( ... )

*A few hours later, Danny has had some time to clear his head and at least partially smother the conflicting emotions bubbling inside of him. Landing back in his room with a flash of light and a return to gravity, Danny reaches for the Dreamberry. Maybe he shouldn't have spent so much time flying, just now--Naomi's probably not doing so well, after a dream like that. Well, there's nothing for it, now. Time to call Naomi.*

*As his thumb lingers over the 'Call' button, he hesitates. It's okay--he has nothing to worry about. Naomi knows he cares for her, even if she's not his Mom, right? She won't stop being who she is for him if that subject comes up and he says as much... Will she?*

*Gritting his teeth briefly as the neatly squashed-back emotion starts to unknot and return with a new wave of anxiety, Danny pushes the button before he can back out.*

Uh--Naomi?

You okay?

[For perhaps the first time in her entire existence in Somarium, Naomi keeps the video feed off for her replies, leaving Danny with only her voice to focus on. Her response is automatic and detached.]

Yes, of course.
