Honestly, I have not heard of the rule you cited. Apparently you put commas in front of names, and words acting as names, when a person is being addressed directly. Is this person in her teens? I would probably impress upon her the importance of having good grammar skills now instead of later. That's kind of lazy. I remember how grateful I was to learn the rules of writing--in college! I wish I had learned them sooner, as I was already writing pretty regularly by that point. The glaring mistakes I saw in her reply are her run-ons. They're pretty cringe-worthy. D:

If she wants to be a professional writer some day, wouldn't it be easier to start working on fixing bad habits now instead of down the road? It's like a smoker saying that they want to die with perfectly clean lungs, but acknowledge that smoking makes that hard, but damn if it doesn't look cool and they're going to do it anyway till they die. Ok, that example was rather extreme, but still ( ... )
