"And then," Kakeru continued rapturously, as Kai resisted the urge to stick his fingers in his ears, "one of the lionesses went into labour and--"
"Too much information!" Kai blurted, scooting back on the bed, wishing he could scrub the image out of his head. "I really don't need to know these things, Kakeru." Honestly he was a little surprised the monologue wasn't accompanied by video this time: Kakeru usually documented these things to show him.
Kakeru gave him a reproachful look, unclasping his hands from where they'd been clutched at his chest. "It was very moving, Kai," he said, the reproach just as evident in his tone as his expression. "You should have been there."
Kai shuddered. "And be surrounded by a horde of predators who'd love to rip my throat out if I got too close? No thanks."
Kakeru folded his arms and glared. "You work at the Sea Life Water Park," he pointed out. "With sharks."
"Sharks who are behind reinforced glass," Kai retorted. "This is why I leave the exploring to you and stay here in Tokyo where it's safe."
Kakeru sighed and unfolded his arms, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "You really should come with me some time," he said softly. "You'd enjoy it, Kai, you really would."
"If you want company that badly take Shirogane," Kai muttered. "Or Sae. They like travelling."
Not that he'd be jealous about that at all. Damn, why did he have to open his big mouth and suggest it in the first place?
"I've gone with Shirogane and Sae before," Kakeru retorted, poking at Kai's ankle. "I want to go with you."
"I get travel sick," Kai muttered. "Especially on planes." All that air underneath you with nothing to catch you if you fell. This was why he preferred water: at least in water you could swim.
"There's tablets for that," Kakeru pointed out hopefully. "And flying's not really that bad."
"You've been talking to Gaku again, haven't you?"
"I only just got back, I haven't exactly had the chance yet."
That was true, Kai conceded. Kakeru had come straight here, although he would admit to being surprised the man wasn't still in his 'Serious Explorer' outfit, complete with hat. It wouldn't be the first time Kakeru had travelled that way, after all.
"Have you even had anything to eat yet?" Kai asked abruptly, changing the subject away from the awkward topic. "Aside from whatever crap they feed you on planes."
"Not really," Kakeru admitted, his stomach growling in response. "I was asleep most of the time."
"Fine, I'll get you something." He swung his legs over the side of the bed and stood up. "Come on, there's stuff in the kitchen."
"You're cooking?" Kakeru asked blankly and Kai scowled.
"You don't have to sound so surprised," he muttered. "But no, I won't be poisoning you with my cooking. Soutarou left some stuff."
"Ah, okay."
Kai scowled some more at the relief in Kakeru's voice. "I'm not that bad!" he protested, stopping in the middle of the doorway, blocking the way. "Keep that up and you can get your own food."
"I'm sorry," Kakeru replied repentently, wrapping his arms around him and resting his chin on Kai's shoulder. "I didn't mean to imply anything."
"Don't think you're getting around me that easily," Kai muttered, trying not to lean back into the hug because he was still annoyed, but damn it he was a tactile person and Kakeru knew it.
"Wouldn't dream of it," Kakeru assured him, holding on a bit tighter. "I just missed this, that's all."
Kai sighed as Kakeru's stomach growled again and gave up. How was he such a sucker for this crap, anyway?
