Short ficlet set in the X-Cure verse that gnawed at my knees until I paid attention to it. It's Ororo/Kurt, and obviously set in the future after an escape/shutdown of the facility.

Ororo had never been fond of churches. In fact, as far as she remembered she'd always had something of a dislike for them. Even when she was a small child she'd found them so…imposing and stifling. The exact opposite of everything that made her feel comfortable. And while she had to admit it was hard to deny the majestic beauty and intricacy of cathedrals, it was still obviously constructed and sculpted and lacked the tranquility of things that were so by simple nature.

Nevertheless, she made her way through the sanctum, her shoes making a soft clicking noise on the floor as she walked. As soon as Kurt spied her he grinned broadly, which prompted a happy smile from her as well. It had probably crossed his mind that she wouldn't come, especially after her initial protestations to the idea. Naturally he above all knew how obstinate she could be, especially when she felt challenged. Her smile widened as she approached, her hand, then arm moving to comfortably link with his. Despite the setting, she could smile and be cordial and kind to whomever was necessary. Really, when was Ororo not? So making all the necessary arrangements would certainly not be a process hindered by her.

When exactly had she become so accommodating, or could the matter be considered an isolated one? Perhaps it was just knowing how much the entire matter meant to Kurt, and that it would be just as much his day as it would hers. Or perhaps all that they had been through before now made her realize that there were far more important things worth fighting or making a fuss about, even with her stubborn nature. If she was truly honest about it, it was quite possible she had always been that way when it came to a certain fuzzy blue elf.

But by Goddess, they were having the reception outside.
