Back from an NUS conference, one at which a document cutting both the time and number of delegates to save cash was successfully pushed through. It was done in such a way that would encourage the least democratic support possible, with delegates voting to incorporate 6 pages of points without having going through any of them - instead either voting

they are a union that seeks to represent students really, you should try and get involved to change it from the inside before it comes a depressing morass of labour party careerists.

It doesn't look like I'll get much of a chance to do anything- the vote I can't make it on whether or not to have a vote on joining NUS, and if it goes yes then the real vote probably won't be 'til next year, which is my last year... but I can always leave a legacy depressing morasses of labour party careerists for future students!
