I think this needs to be addressed..... Trigger Warnings: Slut-shamin, victim-blaming

So, lately I’ve been noticing a trend within Doctor Who fandom. I’m just gonna come out and say right now that I don’t like The Girl in the Fireplace. I don’t. It was classist, sexist, and poorly written. That being said, it’s really getting on my nerves that people are calling Reinette a whore/slut/tramp/etc. because she either fell in love with ( Read more... )

I have a lot of issues with GitF but man do I ever hate it when people use those sort of words about Reinette. No woman should ever be called those words, fictional or historical or real.

I remember I kept on seeing it pop up on Tumblr and I was just like "really?". Not only is it wrong in general, but you're giving people who ship Doctor/Rose a bad name. I know there are peole like that everywhere, but.... Ugh.

Sometimes my fellow Doctor/Rose shippers embarrass me. Like I don't like GitF either, but ugh. No need to say gross things about Reinette. I mean, I am critical about the way she was written because I think Moffat paid a lot of lip service to her accomplishments without actually showing them. But slut shaming her is not on.

Character bashing in general just pisses me off. Like, I love Harry/Hermione, and I'm not a huge fan of Ginny, but it drives me up a wall when people bash her. It's just so immature and unnecessary.

I hated the way she was written. There was that scene where the Doctor talked about her accomplishments, but whenever we see her, it appears that basically her whole life is defined by the Doctor. Never once do we actually see her being the amazing woman that she was.
