I used to tutor English as a foreign language as a volunteer thing to immigrants here in DC, and I seem to recall bringing in "Jabberwocky" to the class as an exercise. It's actually a useful tool, because if students are stuck in the habit of looking up every single word in the dictionary, it's a good way to et them to practice comprehension skills without word-by-word translation. But yeah, it's a little cruel if you don't tell them first that the words are made-up.
