- Made a sign using a few lines from Emma Lazarus's "The New Colussus" which are engraved on the Statue of Liberty which read ""Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free"
- Went to school
- Went to LA MARCHA!!! Ugh, walking to the metro with my sign, my friend and I made way for a guy on a bicycle and he looked at me with my sign and was like "Whatever" in a very audible, annoyed tone. What a bitch. Also, on the metro at Metro Center (freaking PACKED, sorta reminded me of Mexico City, if everyone wore white shirts), I was making way for people to come out and this lady looks at me and goes "Go back to your own country" I wanted to scream "I'm just as american as you are."
- Met up with my mami outside of the Smithsonian stop and we began our walk to the place where she, my aunts, cousins, and grandmother had "set up camp"
- SO embarassing, they had about 5 chairs, blankets on the ground, and my little brother and 4 of my cousins were playing cards. I got them to invite some little El Salvadorian boys who were standing next to us to play. My grandmother had also invited some random ladies who were standing behind the chairs to come and sit.
- The speakers were all so moving. My aunts (the ones who don't speak spanish) had me translating, which is hard to do fast enough, so I would end up missing the next thing they said. I sorta gave up on that so I could just listen. (I can understand Spanish). Mmm, it was all so exciting though. There were THOUSANDS of people all chanting things like "Si se puede!" and "El pueblo unido jamas sera' vencido", and the speakers were all like "We're all american, we all pay taxes, we all work here, we're not CRIMINALS, there are no borders in heaven, there are no borders here."
- Went to Youth Group, did fun things.
- Got home at 9, but couldn't sleeep becuaaaaase I knew I would be seeing DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE AND FRANZ FERDINAND THE NEXT DAY!
- OH EM GEE. School seemed like it was lasting FOREVER.
- FINALLY, Netsie came home with me and we chatted for like 2 hrs, and somewhere in there we picked out our clothes (she had me borrow some of her stuff because my clothes all suck)
- Got on the metro at 6, which happened to be the time we were supposed to be AT farragut north to meet Thomas, Monica, and Christian. We ended up getting there at 6:20, and so I called Thomas and he gave Netsie and I directions to get to Armand's, where they were. What an adventure.
- We ate at Armand's (good stuff, I'd never been there before.) And then walked to DAR. MMM so exciiiting.
- We entered Constitution hall and The Cribs were playing (check them out www.thecribs.com), Netsie and I took our place in our seats in the 2nd to last row directly across from the stage, and Thomas called to show me where he was sitting and to point out the freaking AWESOME seats of Monica and Christian (on the side in a "box").
- Thomas, Netsie and I joined Monica and Christian in said box so we could have a good view of the hot drummer/because then we could maybe have a good view of the concert unless someone kicked us out. Which nobody did. Some lady came by around the first song or so of Franz Ferdinand, but she decided to sit in the box next to us because it was pretty empty too. (I guess the people were on the floor (?))
- OHEMGEE. Franz Ferdinand was amazing. I didn't know all of the songs, but it was so cool. At one point they had THREE PEOPLE PLAYING ONE DRUM SET. They were just so like woahhhhhhhhhhhh. I really liked the light show too.
DEATH CAB FOR CUTIE.
- OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH EMMMMMMMMMMMMMM GEEEEEEEEEEEEE. They were so freaking amazing. So many good songs, both old and new. Such a good atmosphere. Ben Gibbard. Mmmmm. During the concert they played "Wait" "Title and Registration" "Sarah's Song" "Different Names for the Same Thing" "We Laugh Indoors" Land other amaaazing songs. Just soooooo cool. Mmmmmm. Encore was "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" and "Transatlanticism". So blissful. So amazing. So glad we all got to sit together. I got a tour T-Shirt. Netsie got every Death Cab shirt they had plus a Franz Ferdinand one.
