I hope to cloth diaper. This is no longer necessarily a matter of cloth rectangles and pins and rubber pants. Cloth diapers are technical now. You can get fitted diapers which are shaped like disposables and fasten with "velcro" (actually, hook and loop called Aplix or Touchtape) or snaps. You can even get all-in-one diapers that are like ( Read more... )

Yeah, we are all about the saving money, especially since we don't expect this will be our only little one. :-) Sadly, my sewing skills are not what you call professional grade. Good enough to use, but not polished enough to sell! I hope I'm able to be a good Mom, whatever diapers we end up using! :-)

First thought: There's an "online cloth diapering community"?!
Second: Well, sure, why not?
Third: The sheer scope of the online community still surprises me, which is cool.

I like the fabric colors and pattern. And the matching snaps are sweet. I think boy will be quite the fly little guy.

I mentioned your project to DH. He was surprised. When I reminded him that your past projects have included making cloth starting with raising the SILKWORMS and building a thoroughbred from scratch he had to admit that hand-sewn diapers were well within two standard deviations.

LOL, yeah, I have some sort of crafty gene. Not sure how or why but I do.

The fabric was actually from my old quilting stash, from the brief period when I thought I'd like to quilt. At some point I bought a huge pack of fat quarters of these super pretty wovens. It turns out a fat quarter is just about right for one diaper. :-)

The sewing has actually been a nice outlet for nestiness. Usually I do a lot more knitting than sewing, but knitting puts me to sleep now! I have only knit him a couple of things, but I've finished 18 diapers and 2 covers. Would like to start with 24 diapers and 6 covers, but that may be asking too much. :-) My SIL is also sending some hand-me-downs from our CA nieces. So we should do ok! :-)
