you get the sense that the boys spend all this time in close quarters not talking to each other at all, so they can have these teary little exposition scenes a few episodes later. Also, if I was Sam, I would get a seriously bad feeling every time Dean randomly pulled the Impala over in the middle of some picturesque scenery and went to sit on the bonnet for no good reason that I can fathom.

It IS true! This ep Sam tells us that they have spent months chasing job after job and hardly stopping to sleep. He ALSO asks Dean if they're going to talk about what he said at the end of the last ep. So, did Dean tell Sam he tortured people and then Sam went: "....Okay." And then didn't mention it again until now! Sam, that is not Dean being a stoic fuck-up. That is YOU sucking at emotional sensitivity. Or, possibly, the incredibly bad shoe-horning of exposition by a very lazy writing staff trying to stretch out the emo...
