is it master's degree or masters degree? what about bachelors/bachelor's

and why bachelor? how archaic is that?

I think Master's degree would be more appropriate, because you are the master and this is your degree - thus the possessive punctuation.

Still, in most instances I find that saying "Master of such-and-such" sounds better, so I try to say it that way whenever possible.
